The Way Back 4th Street at Birch

Once Upon a Time . . .

. . .  there was a woman who loved (mostly) all things old. She wasn't really particular about what they were, only that they had the character that comes with age. She realized that she could not own and keep all the glorious aged things that she collected and that what she enjoyed most about having these things was helping to find them suitable homes with those who would appreciate them as much as she had come to.

So the woman set out in search of others who found themselves similarly situated. She found that there were a few such individuals in her newly adopted community of Coeur d'Alene.  Soon this small group of pickers, collectors, and vintage goods recyclers formed the member-staffed shop which would come to be known as, The Way Back.

The Way Back opened its doors at its original location at 213 N 4th St in downtown Coeur d'Alene in May 2014. A few months into operations the business expanded into the warehouse portion of the 1920's era art deco building - more than doubling its previous footprint.  A year-and-a-half into this adventure the woman learned that The Way Back's charming art deco home was slated for demolition. Serendipitously, a new home would become available just up the street.

So in November of 2015 while every other creature in the region was headed south, the woman and her merry band headed north - 8 blocks north to be precise - and set up shoppe in The Way Back's new digs at 1103 N 4th.

So that's our story - so far. And the woman - that's Sam. Learn more about Sam and the rest of The Way back gang in Meet our Members.
